Miranda Plant Byers has produced works for theatre, film, and television. In Toronto, Ontario she produced the award-nominated productions Deconstructing Broadway starring Seth Rudetsky (2010), the Summerworks production of Ablaze (2009), and the Edinburgh Fringe production of Tenderpits (2012) at Underbelly. She has also worked as an Associate Producer for the Paprika Festival in 2007 and 2008 under the direction of Natasha Mytnowych, and Tessa King. Her television experience includes work with the Emmy, BAFTA, Royal Television Society awards, Indie awards and Glenfiddich award-winning television and film company Optomen Productions (NYC) in the tv production department, working with the line producer on Mysteries at the Museum, Monsters Inside Me, and Haunted USA.
Her film, Greater Good (2018) (co-production with Moonshot Initiative, formerly Women’s Weekend Film Challenge), in which she starred and produced all while 5 months pregnant, has toured the US, Canada, England, France, and Germany to 38 film festivals garnering many nominations and 8 awards. Favorite official selections include Oscar-qualifying Lighthouse International Film Festival, Fantasia Film Festival, Blood In The Snow, Sick Chick Flicks Film Festival, Aussie Workz Film Festival, Utah Film Festival, and Oxford International Film Fest. She produced and performed alongside Broadway stars like Patrick Page and Christianne Noll in the new short musical film All The World’s A Stage (2024) written by Telly-Award winner Desiree Abeyta, created by Blackburn Finalist Sarah Bierstock, and co-produced with producer Jennifer Diamond. The short is now available for streaming through BroadwayWorld, and was recently featured on the International Coalition of Girls Schools.
Independent film holds a special place in Miranda’s heart. Her work as a Line Producer can be seen on the award-winning film When We Grow Up (2018), starring Cate Curtin (Stranger Things, Insecure), which claimed “Hoosier Best of Lens” (Indy Fest 2018) and is currently streaming on Amazon Prime. Other producer credits can be found on the short films Girls Gone Mild (2017); Cycle (post-production); Van Cortlandt (2019); as well as three web-series, namely the award-winning Darwin: The Series (2017); Single Rules (2018), and Over Thirty: The Series (2016).
In 2019, she became the co-founder and lead producer of Black Opera Productions, LLC where she produced the award-winning Jessye Norman at 75: A Celebration virtual gala featuring Anna Deavere Smith, Laverne Cox, Grammy-nominated Gospel composer, Richard Smallwood; Artistic Director Emerita of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Judith Jamison; Darren Walker (Ford Foundation, President); Alicia Hall Moran; Grammy-Award winning composer Richard Danielpour, Broadway and Opera star Harolyn Blackwell; the Dance Theatre of Harlem, Damien Sneed, J’Nai Bridges, Measha Brueggergosman, Karen Slack, Russell Thomas, Chauncey Packer, Krysty Swann, Audrey DuBois-Harris, Sidney Outlaw, Brandie Sutton, Justin Austin, and Laquita Mitchell. She also produced the shows BLACK OPERA LIVE, and BLACK OPERA LIVE: CANADA with Grammy-award winner Kenneth Overton, and is the co-creator and producer of the feature length documentary, Black Opera (in development), which was awarded the PANO Microgrant in 2021. She completed development and production of George Shirley: Il Rodolfo Nero, for which she was recipient of the To.Get.Her. Chimaera Finishing Fund 2022.
Recent theatre production work includes her role as development producer of theatrical project Like, Subscribe, OBEY! with Whalen Entertainment which made Finalist of the 2023 Cayle Chernin Awards in Theatre (Equity Showcase Canada).
Miranda sits on the Advisory Board for the Make Our Movies Film Fest (MOM Film Fest), and is an Executive Member and Accelerator Program Jury Member for the Moonshot Initiative (501c3). She is a proud member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the Documentary Producers Alliance, Families In Film, and the PANO Network (501c3). She is also a mentoring artist with StateraArts. She believes strongly in promoting female film and theatre artists, and parents in these industries. She is passionate about telling stories created by women, which promote equality and diversity.
She has been a judge for the inaugural MOM Film Festival, DCWebfest (9th edition), and the 2021 National Academy of Television And Sciences Emmy Awards©.

Families in Film Podcast is an extension of Miranda’s advocacy for parents in the film industry. This is a co-production with Families in Film Canada, and features conversations with parents in the industry and how pregnancy and childcare have impacted their jobs and how they navigate the unique challenges of parenting while working in the film industry.
